Artist Statement

It’s funny how on a planet of 7 billion people you can feel solitary and alone. Even with people you have known all your life or someone you have lived with and loved for decades there are those occasional flashes or intuition when you realise that internally you are just ONE and the others are just that, OTHERS. Each of us operating in our own sphere, whose orbit fluctuates an overlaps from time to time to interact with others.

My recent paintings attempt to address this notion of one-ness, they are devoid of humans and picture a quiet deserted world, the odd object may crop up to suggest others have been on this path, so a shed on a beach, a pathway or a light in the distance may suggest the memory of past events, but generally the landscape is empty and still.

In giving the paintings time, you may sense through the stillness, a storm may be coming.
