Artist Statement
After training in Fine Art I taught for many years before taking up painting full time.
My painting always begins with an idea based on observation, whether this is a landscape, perhaps sea and sky, or favourite objects placed on a cloth. This reality is then not so essential as the painting develops. Colour and form are very important to me as I become involved with the play of light and tone to capture mood and atmosphere. I apply paint thickly or scrape away to layers beneath until the finished painting reveals itself.
